Frances Hui
Frances Hui was the first Hong Kong activist to receive asylum in the U.S. At the early age of 14, Frances started her involvement in Hong Kong's social movements. She was a former standing committee member of Scholarism and a campaigner for multiple pro-democracy candidates in Hong Kong. During the subsequent 2019-2020 protests, Frances briefed U.S. officials on the plight of Hong Kongers and organized global solidarity rallies with allies in support of freedom and democracy in Hong Kong. After the imposition of the National Security Law in 2020, she sought asylum in the U.S.
Currently based in Washington, D.C., Frances continues her advocacy with the Committee for Freedom in Hong Kong Foundation as a policy and advocacy manager and through her organization, We The Hongkongers, on cultural strengthening and community building with Hong Kongers abroad. In December 2023, the Hong Kong regime placed a HK$1 million bounty on her head for colluding with foreign forces under the National Security Law.
